2011 Animal Hero Awards
UPDATE
Did you miss this years' Animal Hero Awards ?
Here's a news clip highlighting one of the 5 Animal Heroes awarded. http://miami.cbslocal.com/video/6562888-intuitive-canine-honored-for-heroic-act/
The 6 and the 7 year old Animal Hero Award recipients this year were so
eloquent, really quite amazing and encouraging to behold. 7 year old Dominic
said he was the "Voice for the Voiceless" and he lent his voice, along with 6
year old, Aaliyana, to the movement to stop harming animals in the circus. Bull
hooks were banned in the city of Margate after commissioners heard what the
children had to say about hurting animals.
14 year old Gillian fosters severely abused dogs and helped one dogs;
spirit return to life, after she was dragged for 2 miles behind a car. 14 year
old Arielle made a video about the cruelty inherent in circuses with animal
acts and convinced her teachers, and students to choose kindly and not support
cruel acts. Her video was shown over the school's PA system.
This year was the first time all of the children and youth awarded for helping animals were also vegetarian.
Mac N Truck catered the cruelty-free event with vegan corn dogs, Mac N Cheeze, sweet potato empanadas, veggie burgers, sweet potato fries, and pumpkin whoopee pies. Yum.
Thank you to Whole Foods Market in Palm Beach Gardens for providing, veggies
and dip, and thanks to Gardein for the coupons for their scrumptious crispy
tenders.
Heartfelt thanks to the South Florida Wildlife Center for providing the venue
of their new pavilion.
Any profits from a silent auction at the event went to Compassion Barn, a new
project. Gail Barr did a fabulous job on the auction items. Thank you to
Suzanne Geragi for sewing the runners and providing the centerpieces.
.
